(Fac. Ciencias, módulo 17)

Resumen: In this talk I will try to show how the general philosophy of reduction leads to interesting problems both in pure and applied mathematics. Two examples will be treated: the geodesic motion on the universal Teichmuller space for the Weil-Petersson Riemannian metric and the Eringen equations for micropolar liquid crystals.
