Comparison principles are an extremely useful tool to obtain qualitative properties of the solutions
of several nonlinear partial differential equations. In this seminar, thought for a broad mathematical public,
I will show how such methods can be applied to study propagation phenomena in heterogeneous environments,

but also to determine the number of intersection of some curves in the plane.
